Critical Problem Alerts

Potential Norton AntiVirus Conflict
If you have installed Norton AntiVirus (NAV) on a web server that you have installed Knowledge Server, it is quite likely that the server will stop responding (hang) when a user attempts to make use of Knowledge Server. This problem occurs because the Script Blocking feature in Norton AntiVirus blocks scripting operations that access the file system, such as the FileSystemObject, which is required for accessing saved Analyses (.c3 files) on the web server.

To avoid this problem, you will need to make sure that NAV's script blocking feature is disabled on the web server. For instructions on how to do this, please visit the following page on the Symantec Web Site:

How to disable Script Blocking in Norton AntiVirus 2001

Problem Using Knowledge Server to Access Cubes With Spaces in Their Names
If you are using Knowledge Server version 2.1, and have encountered an error when attempting to use an analysis that connects to a cube with a space in the name, you should download the most recently available release, or update your "wr.asp" file with the wr_update.zip patch.  If you have a version later than 2.1, this fix has been incorporated into the released version.

The patch is contained in a .zip file. After extracting the file, replace your old "wr.asp" file (found in C:\Program Files\Cubularity\Knowledge Platform\Knowledge Server\Samples\Web Renderer) with the new one from the wr_update.zip file.

Saving Preferences While Upgrading (For Windows 9x or ME users)
If you are running on either the Windows 95, 98, 98SE, or ME platform, you may wish to manually back up your registry settings. Information such as recently used connections, recent analysis files, and members stored on the local machine, is all stored in the Windows registry. However, due to bugs in the Microsoft Registry API, Updater cannot preserve your registry settings while upgrading Knowledge Prospector.

One method you may use to preserve your Knowledge Prospector registry settings is outlined below:

  1. Before running the updater, run Regedit by going to the Start menu, choosing Run, typing "regedit" (without the quotes,) and then click OK.
  2. From the Registry menu of the Registry Editor, choose "Export Registry File." Save this as you would any other file, being sure that the export range is set to "all."
  3. Run the Updater for the new version you are installing.
  4. Go back to the Registry Editor and choose "Import Registry File" from the Registry menu. Choose the file that you saved in step 2.
  5. The next time you launch Knowledge Prospector, your old registry settings will be restored.
(Note: If you do not care about saving the information mentioned above, then you can simply run the updater without backing up your Registry.)

MDAC 2.7 Compatibility
Knowledge Platform version 2.2 and greater support MDAC 2.7, which is included with Microsoft's Visual Studio.NET and Windows XP. If you have MDAC 2.7 installed and are using a Knowledge Platform version prior to 2.2, you will need to upgrade to version 2.2 or higher. The latest version can be downloaded by clicking here.
